10 reasons to take up water training

Elamus Spa has a 25-metre pool with six lanes where you can both swim and take part in various water aerobics classes. Whether you swim on your own or train with a coach, water is in any case an effective tool and a pleasant change. Water training is also very well suited for recovering from injuries.

Water training has many benefits

Because the body is light in water – chest-deep in water only about 30% of body weight remains – a state resembling weightlessness makes movement easier and frees the joints from load. Water also softens all abrupt movements and impacts and cools you down so that training is more pleasant. A soft training environment does not leave the muscles too sore after training.

But that does not mean the training is not effective. One minute of training in water equals up to five minutes of training at the same intensity on dry land, because water has 800 times more resistance than air. Water trains the muscles in several directions thanks to water resistance, inertia and buoyancy, and therefore the muscles get a versatile training load.

Water training has even more benefits – blood supply to muscles and tissues, joint mobility and coordination all improve. Water improves the working of the respiratory and circulatory systems and the pulse is lower, because water improves blood flow to the heart. Water also speeds up the metabolism, so it is a good way to lose weight.

Water aerobics is a good change from swimming. The class uses lots of nice and fun equipment such as noodles, discs, dumbbells and boxing gloves, which make the class more exciting.

After swimming, go to the sauna!

Once the water training is done, it is definitely worth stopping by the sauna as well. Elamus Spa is the spa with the largest selection of saunas in the Baltics, with 22 different saunas and water features.

It is especially pleasant to take part in one of the sauna rituals. In the Bridge of Dreams sauna, for example, Jaan Tätte’s songs play as a background for relaxation, the interior is pleasantly woodland-like, and deeply relaxing sound rituals are held with singing bowls, gongs and bells.

The Whisk Sauna, the Mud Chamber and the Lovers’ Cave are not far behind either. Female visitors’ favourites are the skin-moisturising and rejuvenating, wonderfully fragrant shea butter rituals held in the Lovers’ Cave.
